BUSINESSES COME & BUSINESSES GO (SOMETIMES TOO SOON)

*  I'VE SEEN A LOT OF BUSINESS CLOSE AROUND ME LATELY HERE ARE A FEW TIPS
* YOU DON'T NECESSARILY NEED A 5 YEAR PLAN, BUT AT LEAST HAVE MORE THAN A 5 MINUTE PLAN



 


* IF YOU HIRE SOMEONE TO WORK FOR YOU MAKE SURE THEY'RE AS PASSIONATE AS YOU ARE ABOUT REPRESENTING YOUR SHOP

*GREET CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY WALK IN. ONE THING I DISLIKE WHEN I WALK IN IS SILENCE. SAY HI & DON'T PLAY YOUR MUSIC TOO LOUD




* NO ONE SELLS YOUR STUFF BETTER THAN YOU.HELP CUSTOMERS BY TELLING THEM HOW THEY CAN USE/ DISPLAY AN OBJECT, BUT DON'T HOVER

*TRY NOT TO HAVE TOO MUCH GIFT MART STUFF,MAKE IT A UNIQUE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE BY HAVING ONE OF A KIND ITEMS. IF YOU HAVE ITEMS THAT EVERY OTHER SHOP HAS, THEN IT WILL BE A MATTER OF WHOSE SHOP IS  CHEAPER TO BUY FROM.



*IF SOMEONE IS LINGERING OVER AN ITEM, SEAL THE DEAL WITH A PRICE CUT.

*  HAVE A CONTEST OR DRAWINGS

*  IF YOU CONSIDER OPENING 6 DAYS A WEEK, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH "STOCK" IT'S HARD TO REPLENISH WHEN IT'S ONLY YOU DOING THE WORK




*  "OCCASIONAL" OR "POP UP" SALES ARE THE WAY TO GO IF YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH PRODUCT OR CAN'T RE PURPOSE FAST ENOUGH, ALTHOUGH "POP UP" SALES MEAN YOU POP UP IN ANOTHER LOCATION, IT'S BEST TO BE ESTABLISHED IN ONE LOCATION SO YOUR CUSTOMERS CAN FIND YOU & NOT HAVE TO TRAVEL TOO FAR OR OUT OF WHERE THEY'RE UNFAMILIAR

*  OF COURSE PEOPLE WILL COPY OR TRY TO COPY. MY MOTTO: "IMITATION IS THE SINCEREST FORM OF FLATTERY....BUT THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING......THAT "REAL THING" BEING ME LOL

*  MAKE SURE YOUR BUSINESS NAME IS CATCHY & SELF EXPLANATORY, NOT VAGUE LIKE "HOME AGAIN" & YOU WALK IN & IT'S A FUNERAL PARLOR.

*  GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO ESTABLISH YOUR BUSINESS, (ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY AFTER ALL). GET ON SITES &PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS, POST SALES ON FREE SITES &  MAKE POSTINGS OFTEN TO KEEP YOUR "PEEPS" INTERESTED.

*    TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHEN A PERSON HAS A HOME SALE THAT IT HAS TO BE A NICE DAY & THEY DON'T WANT THEIR STUFF TO GET WET, THEY ARE PROTECTING THEIR INVENTORY & WANT TO GIVE CUSTOMERS THE BEST QUALITY PIECES THEY CAN THEY WORK HARD FOR WHAT THEY MAKE & ARE ALSO BUMMED WHEN THEY HAVE TO POSTPONE.
*  BE KIND & NOT SNARKY WHEN SOMEONE INVITES YOU TO SHOP PRIVATELY EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT A RETAILER.

TO MY :PEEPS" **ANNOUNCEMENT**


I HAVE DECIDED THAT MY LIFE NEEDS A CHANGE. I NEED TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF & MY HEALTH
     WITH EVERYTHING I’M INVOLVED IN, THE CONCLUSION IS THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU NEED TO DO, YOU CAN’T DO IT WITH BAD HEALTH .



     I’VE HAD QUITE A SCARE FOR AWHILE NOW & PUT OFF A PROCEDURE THAT I COULDN’T  PICTURE MYSELF DOING. BUT I DID IT & DIDN’T EVEN HAVE MY USUAL PANIC ATTACK.
     I WILL NOT BE HAVING ANYMORE  PUBLIC SALES, OTHER THAN POSSIBLY JUNE 9
  WHICH ARE THE ANNUAL TOWN SALES; ONLY BECAUSE I’M IN CHARGE OF SAID SALES.

     I WILL ONLY BE SELLING TO BRICK & MORTAR RETAILERS.
     IT IS MORE REALISTIC FOR ME TO SELL BY THE TRUCK/TRAILER LOAD THAN ONE ITEM AT A TIME.
     TO ALL MY “PEEPS” THAT DON’T HAVE SHOPSYOU CAN PM ME FOR DETAILS. I WILL NOT ANSWER ANYONE PUBLICLY. SORRY, BUT I HAVE TO DO WHAT’S RIGHT FOR ME. HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND & WHO KNOWS THINGS CAN CHANGE WITH A “POP UP” SALE.
     I WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO LIST MY “FINDS” & JUNQUE & BE ON THE HUNT……BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT I DO ;).........I NEED TO RELAX & TAKE TIME FOR MYSELF.

MY GLAMOROUS & FABULOUS JUNQUE SALES

I WILL BE LISTING MY EVENTS FOR  2018 SOON.

      AS MOST OF YOU MIGHT KNOW, I DON'T USUALLY SELL TO THE PUBLIC, SO WHEN I DO HAVE A SALE FOR THE PUBLIC, YOU SHOULD BE HERE ON TIME THAT DAY, NOT THE DAY BEFORE, NOT THE WEEK BEFORE......WHENEVER I HAVE A SALE, THAT'S IT. SALES TO THE PUBLIC ARE USUALLY AN EVENT.... OPENING FOR THE YEAR: MARCH (WILL BE MY FIRST SALE),, TOWN SALES IN JUNE.....MAYBE IN JULY IF I HAVE ENOUGH PRODUCT & ONE IN OCT, OTHERWISE I SELL TO RETAILERS WHO LOAD UP THEIR TRUCKS, THAT IS THE REASON I HAVE TO REPLENISH ALL THE TIME.
    I HAVE TO SEARCH,RE PURPOSE & PAINT, WHICH TAKES TIME, SINCE I HAVE VERY LITTLE GIFT MART ITEMS, MOST OF MY RE PURPOSING  ARE ONE OF A KIND.ALSO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING & INQUIRE ABOUT IT, IT MAY BE UNDER A PIECE OF FURNITURE & I AM NOT UNLOADING A WHOLE BUILDING FOR ONE PIECE,(SORRY) SO YOU HAVE TO COME TO MY SALES. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR A VERY LONG TIME  & I SEEM TO HAVE IT DOWN TO A SCIENCE. MY PRICES ARE VERY CHEAP.......THAT'S WHY I SELL IT BY THE TRUCKLOAD........MOST PEOPLE GET IT! I SPECIALIZE IN farm tables, dressers, chairs, benches, home decor, architecture,night stands,side tables, antiques, prims etc, cottage, french etc.








WHEN I AM OUT ON THE HUNT FOR JUNQUE & THERE'S SOMETHING I WANT, I BUY IT, IT DOESN'T TAKE ME 5 HOURS TO DECIDE, MY MOTTO: "IF YOU LIKE IT, BUY IT, YOU'LL ALWAYS FIND A SPOT FOR IT"






     I PLAN A VERY BUSY 2018, I HOPE I CAN KEEP UP :) (SOMETHING IN THE WORKS).
I HAVE MY OWN LINE OF CHALK PAINT ("ITALIANPEASANT CHALK PAINT") & "BELLA CHIC" CLOTHESLINE & AM VERY BUSY WITH OTHER ENDEAVORS......SO RELAX ISN'T A WORD IN MY VOCABULARY.
    I ALSO DO DESIGN CONSULTATIONS WHEN I HAVE THE TIME, BUT AM MOSTLY TRAVELLING FOR THE GOODS FAR & WIDE, SO I CAN HAVE A GREAT SELECTION FOR MY SALES.

      SOME STORE OWNERS/DECORATORS, USE THE WORD "CURATE" TO DESCRIBE HOW THEY BUY;NOT ME, I DON'T CURATE LOL, IT'S HARD TO GUESS WHAT PEOPLE WILL LIKE.THOUGH THEY USUALLY LOVE IT ALL THAT I HAVE FOR SALE. I BUY WHAT I LIKE & LIKE WHAT I BUY, THAT WAY I DON'T FEEL STUCK WITH IT. I CAN ALWAYS USE IT IN MY HOME.



     3 TIMES A YEAR I "FLUFF" UP MY HOME FOR SPECIAL SALES & BRING OUT THE GOOD STUFF THAT I DECORATE WITH......MY COLLECTIONS FROM YEARS OF GATHERING.




     I ALSO TRY TO AVOID MASS PRODUCED ITEMS. MY FURNITURE IS USUALLY REINVENTED, PAINTED & DISTRESSED. I FEEL MY CUSTOMERS WANT ONE OF A KIND PIECES IN THEIR HOMES, SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN THEIR FRIENDS HAVE.

SALEING WITH GIONI

I can't believe that some people think that a few miles is too far to go for a bargain & the chance to get 50-75% off of retail *(why I'm so cheap, see below).
    I travel 540 miles not expecting to find anything, but hoping..........& make the best of the trip if I don't find anything. Yes I'm talking about the "Elephants Trunk" flea market in New Milford, CT. We've been going there since 1976 & it never disappoints. I love the drive & the stops along the way. We were even in one episode zooming along with my pimped out flea cart........YES, I MAKE THOSE TOO!!I'm about due to make some more...






It's not the destination, it's the journey & getting to spend time talking, eating & laughing along the way is fun in itself.
     I had my big sale June 10th & early buyers June 9th & a wonderful gal from North Carolina drove 6 hours just for the sale. I was hoping that my sale would be everything she expected it to be & it looked like it was. She drove a full size van & a pull behind  trailer, she ran around grabbing everything she could in the pandemonium of the early buyers.






I am currently replenishing for a sale of the Lincoln highway buy way sales Aug. 10, 11, & 12.....**NOTE** I will only be doing the saturday Aug 12th if it doesn't rain because I will be travelling it the other 2 days ;)
    Before the Aug sale I will be going to CT & hopefully NC for some peaches. After the lincoln highway sales I will be in Bouckville, NY.....another adventure.
     I love to whitewash everything so no one can complain that it won't go with their color decor. Sometimes I do gray & aqua......even apple green, but for the most part it's whitewash.
      I also have my own line of chalk paint  &  "CIAO BELLA"© clothesline  with vintage lace accents.

     I also like to make farm tables out of  pieces/parts of vintage wood......doors/ legs etc. I had a french day bed that I deconstructed & painted the legs aqua, put out for sale twice & no one bought it & it was super cheap, so I not only reclaimed it, I claimed it as my own & now it's in my sunroom.

* why is Gioni so "cheap"/inexpensive?? because I like it when my peeps buy in quantity not one item at a time. I like to move my inventory FAST so I can bring out & work on more. I hate looking at stuff for a long time, so it's time to "MOVE THAT MERCHANDISE" & my "peeps" never disappoint in helping me clear out for another junking adventure.
       So if you live far from me.....trust me, it's worth the trip.....I'd even travel that far LOL.......bring your trucks & trailers, my sales are few & far between, so when I say "FLASH" don't blink because it is.
